am so blessed to have this addition to the 5 minutes for mom theme blogs. I tried to subscribe to the email and rss feed of the new faith site, but it kept coming up as error. Hopefully this tech difficulty will be fixed soon... in the meantime... looking forward to a few mins each day here!

I think I've learned some of what you're hearing from Him. Enjoy the toil. There is good in the labor itself--even if it doesn't lead to riches or advancement. I've been where you are in laying down the "writing career." I had good early success and then a season where I had to set it aside while DH went to seminary and then started our family. I have heard Him say that I am to continue to write, but it may not be for books that will sell thousands; it may be for my blog that on a good day sees a dozen or two! But, writing keeps me listening to Him and it's a form of obedience in itself since He's never told me that I'm free to stop.

I agree that it's not possible to please God through our performance (which so much of our striving actually amounts to), but He delights in our praise and obedience. Kind of like with our own kids; while I'd love to have a cancer-curing genious or Olympic athlete, all I really care about right now is an obedient child who delights in being in our family as much as we delight having them. As I type this it occurs to me that as much as I am frustrated by my 3 year old's defiance, God must feel the same about me "It would go so much easier for everyone if you just obeyed."

Thank you for this beautiful post. I firmly believe that it is possible to please God but not in or of myself. I believe that I can only please Him through the Holy Spirit and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through me. When we are able to produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives we are reflecting God's nature...but only through the Spirit can that fruit be produced. Unfortunately, I probably don't please Him as much as I desire. My natural self tends to rule more quickly then my spiritual self...but praise God that we are a work in progress and that He promises to complete His work within us!
