“Red Rover, Red Rover, send Jennifer right over” we chanted even as we grasped small sweaty hands even tighter. I could feel my knuckles crushing together but I wasn’t going to let her through. Determined not to be the weak link, I planted my feet just a little wider than shoulder’s width apart. I would not be moved.
Her eyes caught mine, and I knew she was running right towards me. I braced myself as her seven-year-old body catapulted across the dusty playground aimed at my arms.
Just don’t let go. Just don’t let go, I told myself.
What was once child’s play has prepared me for the path God has planned for me. Some days I stand holding hands with friends, chanting and laughing in the sun. Others, I am bracing myself for the challenges running my way, holding desperately to my King. And then there are days when I hear my name called, and I go running full force trying to break through to the other side.
As time to deliver my baby girl draws close, I am tired, sweaty, and covered with dust. Just don’t let go. Just don’t let go, I tell myself when I want to plop down on the playground and cry. The Lord brought me here for a purpose, and my labor will not be in vain. I will grip the hand of my Savior, knowing where I am weak He will be strong.
Are you feeling the heat of the playground? Does it seem every attack is launched right at your arms? Hold the hand of the One who can save you. Stand firm. Let nothing move you, and don’t let go. You know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
